General Occupational Safety

AAA Best Practice Audit*. AAA is a process of evaluating the critical nature of risk associated with a process, establishing the level of risk based on world class criteria, and determining what improvements are needed to adequately control the risk.  The AAA assessment process provides management with a method to objectively identify steps to improve their risk management system.

Behavioral Safety*. Our is a systems approach to behavioral change, simultaneously addressing each level of behavior:

  • Organization. We look for opportunities for change in management systems.
  • Group. We look for opportunities for involvement by individuals and groups to positively influence group behavior to support efforts to bring about change.
  • Individual.  To help internalize the values you are working towards.

Electrical Safety. We focus on the electrical safety requirements and safe work practices contained in OSHA Subpart S, NFPA 70, and NFPA 70E.  We assist in eliminating electrical hazards or otherwise guarding against them. Areas include creating an electrically safe work condition, control of hazardous energy, arc flash, arc blast, and personal protective equipment.

Fall Protection. Falls from heights is a major concern found on construction and manufacturing sites.  Fall protection consulting involves performing a fall risk assessment by evaluating the effectiveness of management control programs and operational controls to reduce fall exposures to employees. Training can also be provided on implementing a fall protection program.

Life Safety. Life safety involves exposures to employees, guests, and visitors. We've been part of the NFPA 101 Technical Committee since 1994, helping to craft the Life Safety Code.  In addition to operational control assessments such as fire and emergency plans, emergency drills, maintenance procedures, and review of documentation, we can review issues such as fire detection/alarm systems, exit design and arrangement, occupant load vs egress capacity, emergency lighting, and exit marking.

Lockout/Tagout. Through LOTO consulting, we help identify the practices and procedures necessary to shut down and lock out or tag out machines and equipment, outline training employees should receive in their role in the lockout/tagout program, and cover periodic inspections which need to be conducted to maintain or enhance the energy control program.

Machine Guarding. The first stage assessment is a baseline audit, which reviews policies and procedures on site relating to purchasing, risk assessment competencies, training, awareness of regulatory requirements and new machinery assessment and commissioning.  There are also more focused technical services available including detailed assessment of particular machines for regulatory compliance, validation of existing risk assessments, or training in risk assessment methodologies.

OSHA Audit. If a full OSHA type risk audit is required, our assessment is designed to match an Official OSHA wall-to-wall safety assessment.  The report will includes reference the applicable OSHA Standards and provide guidance in areas as needed to meet these requirements.

OSHA VPP. VPP is a management focused HSE Certification process in the United States.  Our VPP assessment assists you in preparing for an OSHA VPP verification audit.

Personal Protective Equipment. A key element in many safety programs is the proper use by employees of personal protective equipment.  Our  PPE review is normally  completed during Industrial Hygiene and general safety assessments.  If desired, a full PPE assessment can be conducted.

Powered Industrial Trucks. Our PIT program is designed to help you meet current OSHA regulations for operator training, applicable to all employees regardless of experience level.  Also covered are required areas of safe operation and maintenance.  Our offerings include a lift truck operator training program audit in addition to operator and supervisor training programs.

Return to Work. Our goal is to help create a Work Return Program with a goal to have “zero days off work due to work-related injury”.  We work closely with you to establish a work return program that matches the company culture.  We help define transitional duty jobs with functional assessments, work with the doctors to gain their understanding of job demands, and with you to develop the mechanics of the Program. Gaining employee and supervision buy-in is a critical element of our approach.

Substance Abuse. Our service emphasizes developing a written policy, reviewing drug testing options, designing an employee communication program, training managers and supervisors, establishing documentation and disciplinary procedures, and developing an effective employee assistance program.  We can assist in reviewing you basic needs, and when a more comprehensive analysis is required, our substance abuse specialist can be used to complete an in depth analysis.

Tools - Hand and Power. Hand and power tools are a critical element of most operations for construction and general industry.  This assessment is normally be conducted during a general risk and/or vibration assessment.  If desired, an in depth survey of hand tools including electrical grounding, guarding, PPE, and suitability for a task can be performed.

Vulnerability Assessment. A terrorism vulnerability assessment evaluates weaknesses that can be exploited. It evaluates the vulnerability of facilities across a broad range of identified threats/hazards and provides a basis for determining physical and operational mitigation measures for their protection.  Answering questions concerning vulnerability to terrorist attack may involve three means of data collection: Visual inspection, document review, and organization and management procedures review.

Welding, Cutting, Brazing. Consulting includes an evaluation of hazards and precautions including electrical shock, fumes/gases, fire and explosion, confined space, harmful dust/smoke, and ergonomic related injuries.  Exposures and controls assessed include chemical and physical agents, gas and arc welding, oxygen and arc cutting, gas cylinder safety, protective clothing, ventilation, and hot work permit systems.
