Q. First Impression: As a longtime executive with a wide range of industry experience and expertise, what’s your ‘30 day take’ on ESIS?
Building a sustainable culture starts at every new employee’s first impression of the organization. From day one I felt like I was home. I quickly felt the strength of our culture and realized how collaborative the ESIS organization is. There are so many positive things going on at ESIS, ranging from new state of the art technology, to new products and a defined focus on the customer experience. I have been impressed with how well our company is run from the top down and how satisfied our employees and customers are. I have always believed that when you start with great claim handling, good things will happen. And that is what I see here – an organization that takes great pride in delivering great outcomes. The passion and energy are inspiring and I am excited to be part of it.
Q. In three words or less what distinguishes ESIS ProClaim from its competitors in the TPA market?
Specialists not Generalists
Q. What are your top three priorities for ESIS ProClaim? Do you have a particular vision?
Our vision is to be the recognized leader in outsourced professional liability, complex general liability and specialty lines claims administration and risk consulting TPA services. ESIS ProClaim delivers outstanding value through custom solutions, a dedication to quality, and white glove customer experience. To achieve this, our top priorities are:
- Profitable and sustainable growth
- Provide best in class claim quality and outcome-driven results
- 97% or better client and revenue retention as a result of providing the best customer experience in the industry
Q. Why is ESIS ProClaim an important service for current and potential clients?
Professional Liability claims and other specialty line claims are often complex and can be difficult for clients. Focusing on these specific lines of business, and on particular customer segments and industries, has allowed us to develop the technical expertise needed to provide customized risk management solutions and to give customers the confidence that we are committed to achieving their risk management goals. Customers are faced with many cost challenges and we are focused on driving down the total cost of risk for these volatile and expensive claims.
Q. How will ESIS ProClaim benefit from the outside perspective you are bringing to the role?
I have had the benefit of working in a number of different leadership roles at different companies over the past 30 years, including TPA’s, brokers, and carriers. I have held positions ranging from underwriting, claims, loss control, operations, sales and marketing, and internal audit. Additionally, I have run and owned businesses in the past.
My hope is to leverage all of my experience—what has worked and what has not—and bring ProClaim a fresh, innovative and solutions-driven “play to win” approach. There already is a renewed focus on driving new business opportunities, looking at possible tuck in acquisitions, and making organizational changes to become more efficient while lowering expenses. Our clear and defined business strategy is poised to project us into an optimistic future.
Q. Do you have any plans to change or enhance any of the current services?
Yes, beyond handling medical and hospital professional claims, which has been the core service we provided, our team has deep expertise handling Errors and Omissions (E&O), Directors and Officers (D&O), Cyber, Products and Product Recall, Crime and Fidelity, New York Labor Law, Environmental and Pollution and Mass Tort claims. We have developed initiatives around this expertise and are executing on a “Go-to-Market” strategy to drive new opportunities around these lines of business.
Q. What is the value in partnering with Chubb’s healthcare industry practice?
Chubb’s Healthcare industry practice is very robust and provides coverage to many clients with Self Insured Retentions (SIR’s) and Deductibles, which presents a direct opportunity for growth within ProClaim. At times, these Chubb insureds may be looking for a new claims administrator. Being able to introduce ProClaim as a claims administration solution that Chubb has confidence in, presents an opportunity for clients and strengthens the overall breadth of offering within Chubb’s Healthcare industry practice.
Conversely, ProClaim handles many hospital systems and long term care facilities. Those clients may also benefit from the robust coverage options that Chubb’s Healthcare insurance practice has to offer. Ultimately, bringing together the broad capabilities of Chubb’s Healthcare industry practice will allow us to provide more creative and responsive insurance and risk management products that will afford our healthcare customers with a more complete solution for their diverse needs.
